The dresses that made me look forward to getting ready again.
How I found something lovely to wear for lunches, dinners and those occasions when I wanted to feel a little special.
My wardrobe was full, but getting ready never seemed to get any easier.
Before a lunch, a dinner or a family celebration, I would try on a few things, look in the mirror and reach for the same familiar trousers and top.
Somewhere along the way, I had stopped enjoying that little moment of choosing an outfit.
I still loved beautiful dresses. I wanted a shape I felt happy in, a neckline I liked and something that felt right for the occasion.
A friend mentioned Julia Mercer over coffee, and that evening I had a look through their Favourite Dresses collection.
The printed wrap midi caught my eye first. I liked the collar, the tie waist and the way the skirt fell. I could picture the whole outfit already: simple shoes, a small bag and a pair of earrings.
Then I kept looking. Lace, florals, flowing maxi dresses. Different styles for different moods.
Here is what appealed to me.

The Gracie maxi was one of the dresses I kept coming back to. I loved the lace, the little buttons and the sheer sleeves. I could picture it with simple heels and a small bag for dinner or a family celebration. Choosing the rest of the outfit already felt easy.
The coverage I like in an evening dress
The Rubi maxi appealed to me for its long sleeves and full-length skirt. I liked the gathered detail around the waist, which gave the dress a lovely shape. I could picture it for dinner or a family celebration, with a pair of earrings and my favourite heels.

What I liked was finding dresses I could picture wearing to the plans already in my diary. A printed midi for lunch, a lace dress for dinner, and a longer style for a family celebration.
It brought back that little pleasure of choosing an outfit and looking forward to wearing it.
